i looked at their website and again external drives run between 99-119 dollars. guess i'll have to accept the inevitable. Radio Shack has one called Mad Dog and it does just about everything. that's 99 though. oh well.

i just recently bough a samsung external 18x lightscribe dvd burner from my local best buy for 80 bucks (not on sale or any rebates) and it has been greet so. A couple of months ago I bought a memorex external 16x dvd burner for 100 bucks off of amazon.com from seller tigerdirect ( you can buy directly from there site though, tigerdirect.com), it hasnt gave me any problems except for on the vertical stand but off the vertical stand and the firewire interface it does great. A lot of people say i shouldn't of bought it cause it's rebranded but i didnt know at the time, but it does good for me.

              well

well i guess i'll think about the online thing. the thing is i don't have my own card so i'd have to ask permission but other then that...chances are i'll still end up getting the Sony one at Wal-Mart. they are out of HP's right now they said and as it is Wal-Mart we are talking about, they may never get any more in because they only get what they are sent and has no control over it as they don't order things. but oh well.

a lot of people buy sony stuff just b/c they reconize the name and think its dependable but as sometimes it is not true, as u'll spend over 100 bucks for it i spent 80 bucks for my samsung one and i'm sure they'll be just the same, if not mine being better, my point is the expensive burner is not always the best burner b/c you just might be only buying the name.

you have a point metrock.that's one reason why i'm not going to go for an expensive one anyway. especially as there are so many kinds of popular brands like Sony,HP,among others. the Mad Dog brand that Radio Shack sells,i don't know that brand but apparently it'll do everything. CD-R,DVD-R,DVD-RW,DVD+R,DVD+RW,DVD-ROM,DVD-RAM,etc. again radio shack's price is 99. I'll get paid on Friday so i'll do some looking either that day or Saturday. I'll let you know.

I just bought one for someone at Office Max today on clearance. You might want to go by and check it out. I don't know if your's has them or not but it is a Light-On shw-165sx 16x. It was $65.00 and a had some empty ink cartridges to knock it down to $56 bucks! Not too bad.

empty ink cartridges? you mean there is ink in these things? regardless yes i do have an office max. i posted earlier in this thread about this. i might call again tomorrow to see what prices they have again but i might be able to go there. especially since office max isn't far from Wal-Mart here. Again i'll keep you posted.

Make sure you ask them about the clearance items. These weren't in the regular burner place, they were on a clearance table with some other items.

                          well

i could even try that i guess but as they could put just about anything in clearance it might not appear in the clearance table for weeks or even months. but i could try i guess. i got to get one soon though because i'm tired of reflashing my drive.

I think maybe they are not going to carry that particular burner anymore. It is an older one. They had 4 of them left when I bought mine. I've found some good deals at Staples in their clearance section also. Office Max will take 5 empty inkjet cartridges at a time so if you save them up or find someone else who doesn't want to mess with turning them in you can sale $15 off anything.
You can only turn in 3 at a time at Staples and only one at Office Depot.

                              i'm still confused

again we are going back to the ink cartridge issue. these things have ink cartridges? i hope they are not hard to load. and we don't have a staples here. we live in a county of 100,000 people so until i go to Birmingham or Anniston (we live in Alabama) where the cities are larger, then we'd find one. it took them forever to build a Chili's here but they finally did it. lol. anyway...

no, they dont have ink cartridges...... smky is just telling you that she takes her empty cartridges in to the store and they give her money for them, and she applies that money to the purchase price of the items she is buying
