    practice makes perfect? hehe

Sorry... Ummm lets see, When I start the process Ripit4me thru decrypt process it's on the c: drive and when I shrink it I back it up to the f: drive.
Is that is what you are asking? Also I just noticed in post #42 that the f: drive appears framented I did a defrag on it... (I just usually defrag c: regular basis and use f: for saving files) I ran the defrag on it it told me to do it again.. weird.

ALSO noticed that in the Nero DVD/CD speed it only lets me read at max or 7X on the sony drive.. that bites I can't seem to fix it and I have went in and tried to reset them... grrrrrrrr

well got my burns back up for now ..it went into PIO mode again I need to check that more often.
I am shooting for a 100 on burn quality score one of these days...

      Jake,

Post another pic of the defag on the F drive.

The reason I was asking is, I was looking for about 15G free to do a rip & backup. Apx 8.5G for rip, and 4.5G for the ISO.

To me it looked like you were walking the thin line.

Glad your up and burning again.

small hard drives, small partitions are dangerous business with large files like movies, my 20 gig data partition is a heavily used work drive for me, a while back I pushed it to the limit. Still had 4 or 5 gigs free space and I lost a movie folder that became corrupt. I had to extract all the data from that partition onto another hard drive and to be safe I reformatted ntfs slow.

Below I have attached a defrag screenshot of the drive after putting 4 gigs on it, another after the 4 gigs is removed

            832S.CY58.patched-cf-ledfix.exe

they are all pretty much the same, probably don't want to use the liteon id ones tho, that would disable any software that came with your sony drive

              Chewy Look what I did!

Thank you.. I couldn't figure that sucker out! Also in you post #48 you state :
"I reformatted ntfs slow" .. may I have a short explaination of that?
My last posting of screen shot of defrag F: drive looks the same as when I posted it. I tells me to defrag just after it finishes defraging (lol.. what the hell?) All I have are files on there music and the backed up movies. How can that fragment so badly? Sounds like a reformatting may be in order?
I can back those up easily to a disk and reformat that sucka... but I've never done that to a storage/backup hd before.
Well after I fix all this mess.. my taxes are due back soon.
Tell me where I'll go post a "Jake wants to build a new computer" post and let you guys help me find good parts, inexpensively until I have a new lean burning machine and retire this one to my wife.
Going to reboot now in safe mode and install that firmware...
Where do we stand right now?.. what more info do you need me to post so we can beat this dell dinosaur into submission?
Thanks for your help and patience
(you other guys as well!!! RB Soup Les...etc)

PS chewy those shot of your HD before and after 4 gigs are installed and after removed they DO shed light on this... I did NOT realize that I was doing that to my F: drive again and again maybe that's WHY it don't want to defrag.?
              ================================================== =====
Edited later: After I left here I went to bed... baby got me up early and I fooled with this a little ot rid of of MANY BS files and programs and lookie what I accomplished!... now bob's my uncle! hehehe
OK you've taken me all the way down the yellow brick road (by the hand) I've defraged..msconfig unchecked all the crap except my call wave... Last night I've installed that NEW firmware for the Sony dru700 a (in safe mode I might add ).... And also rechecked and my computer is in Ultra DMA on both primary and secondary channels...
anything else I should do? (other than shoot that samsung drive?)
I maybe resident forum "ShortBus" here.. but I am a learnin` hehe!
              Thanks

                That thing still runs?
Looks like a new system. Lean, mean, & clean.
It does not take long to fill the trunk of a small car

At least it does not look like you will have to . for awhile.

I was looking at the little icon of the pac man throwing the computer.. the reason I have this Dell because the HP clone I had pretty much took a swan dive like that. It crashed on me in the middle of restoring a 50 year old picture for a friend. I am one of those people that can use art and image cutting and pasting like a fool.. the image was looking great, but it caught me in the wrong mood I took it outside and threw it onto the lower drive way from the top level... umm 15-20 foot drop and power throw. I was ill that day. hehe
BUT.. keeping with what remains the topic of this thread, forgive the over statement... Soup, Chewy, RayBoy and Les... maybe someone else that can give an educated guess. I am wondering this If you one click and all went well and then ImgBurn (bitsetting) but when I redid the movie 3 times because I was not happy with a 70 score on the nero cd-dvd speed BUT I noticed all 3 times the one red spike dropping the score was in the same dang place can a bad place in the rip cause that to happen?

hehehe I still think it's funny that I am able to print screen and capture the image.. I thought I'd never learn it but it's so dang easy I was just thinking it was hard bet some people here say "OMG, we created a monster, hehe)

single red spike is usually a glitch and not to worry

a mountain with red peaks forget it

do a disk transfer test and see if the read has a sharp drop where the spike was

..not sure what a "disk transfer test" is.

Benchmark in CdDvd Speed, it's one of the tests.

                              Thank you brother soup!
I use Nero CD/Dvd speed daily at home... use the disk quality to check the burn now.. and scandisk if I suppect there is a problem with either the disk I burned to or the source disk, just to make sure.
But NOW I know that Benchmark is a "disk transfer test"... I am at work today so I will read up on how to use it. BTW I want a copy of CD/DVD speed on this work computer for things here.. where can I get that free version to download on this computer?

Chewy... On that page you linked me to, every time I hit a "download" link on the page I get this : http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html
The page is blank and at the bottom of the browser it says 'done'. I down load quite a bit of things off the net and come across dead links all the time but not this. Refreshing and hitting all the different links I get the same results.. ideas?
