I have an HP 840i It used to take me 10-15 mins to burn a DVD-5. Two months ago I was backing up a non-encrypted DVD and suddenly found that it was taking 35-45 mins to do this, regardless of the burn speed I set Nero at. I also found that it was taking significantly longer to rip dvd's, whether using Nero, DVD Shrink or DVD Fab. I backed up my copy of 'the Departed' using Fab and it took 58 mins to rip. New releases requiring Fab used to take me 20-30 mins tops. A non-encrypted DVD-5 takes me about 35-40 mins to rip now at 'max speed', where it used to only take 6-10 mins. It took me 18 mins to burn 660 MB onto a cd last night! I tried to update the firmware unsuccessfully- the update appears to be incompatible with the drive, if that makes any sense (could my error somehow) but in any case the update appears to be designed to make certain blank media more palatable for the drive and not anything related to my current woes. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.
My drive is running slow as a b**tard!
