I recently purchased an RCA DVD Recorder with HDMI Upconverting capabilities. Model #DRC8052N. Didn't really care about the recording part, just bought it for the upconverting and the included HDMI cable for under $100. So far the unit has played all of my back up discs flawlessly. Last night I tried an original disc and it would not play. Tried several more original discs and got the same result. As soon as the disc starts to play the signal from the player to the television via HDMI cable dies. All of my back up discs are +R bittset to dvd-rom. Anyone have any idea why original discs will not play? Could it be an encryption issue , HDMI issue ,or possibly a player set to the wrong region.. It has the most current firmware installed. Searched several forums but only issue people had with the same player was problem with -R discs.

Firmware was already installed Chewy. I looked it up at RCA website to make sure it had the most current... I did find one set of pressed discs it would play.. My WW2 Battlefront collection.. No movies though.sigpic

Tried standard AV cables and got same result. No other components connected.
This thing is supposed to play pressed discs according to the manual.. As soon as you hit play and movie starts the signal just dies and it will receive the signal as soon as you push stop on the player. This is crazy!!! I have tried at least 20 back up discs with no problem.sigpic

I think you may be right Chewy...I'm waiting to hear back from RCA support. Their knowledge base doesn't even list this player,so no help there. I guess I should have saved the box since I may need to return this thing.sigpic

Finally got a call back from RCA support..Of course they were clueless and suggested sending the unit back. The local Wallyworld doesn't have any more of these units and they do not expect to get any of them any time soon. I think I will keep it awhile since it does play my back up copies O.K. and wait to see if Wallyworld gets any more instead of dealing with the hassle of sending it back to RCA.sigpic
