    Undo firmware?

Seems like an easy question but I searched and couldn't find much on it. I have the Lite-on 165H6S with the new firmware (HV9N). How can I revert back to the original firmware? I tried the HSOE firmware but it won't recognize my drive. Here's the error message I get:

    No matched drive detected!

This utility is only for Lite-on DVDRW SHM-165H6S drive.

    Detected Drives:

    4-0-0-0F:Lite-on DVDRW SHM-165H6S HV9N

It's almost like it set up some kind of morphed drive that it won't recognize. I need to revert back because I think this firmware is giving me trouble with a particular disc I want to play. It is a game disc.

Another interesting thing is that when I go into "My computer" and there is no disc in the drive Windows XP labels it a "DVD-Ram" Drive and when I place a blank DVD in it labels it a "CD" Drive. I tried to re-install the HV9N firmware and that didn't seem to help.

I had flashing problems as well, and I used a utility I read about in another forum....it helped me as there is no actual way to "undo" a firmware flash...just have to reflash

It seems to be burning ok. Just weird that it lists the drive as a DVD-Ram drive or a CD drive. I tried to run this game with another drive I stuck in my computer and it didn't like it either. So it must not be the drive but I'm still curious about the DVD-Ram.....

Beachbumm33, Does your drive list as a DVD-Ram?

If that is your only problem, I wouldn't worry too much as it is a common occurrence.

I know that burner and firmware are recommended by a few members on here.

since that being a 4 is an indication of non-standard ide drivers, I would definitely do all my flashes from safe mode in pio mode rather than dma with those drivers loaded

Those recommendations are why I bought the Lite-on. Just wasn't sure why it says DVD-Ram and not DVD-RW like my other drive.
