Can someone tell me how to connect a remote DVD burner to a Dell computer. & if this can be done, I want to back up material on the hard drive of the computer to a DVD..

Maybe I should explain I have a Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD burner unit and Dell Demision E510 computer. The computer only has a cd burner not a dvd burner.

I have a Dell E510 also but I am not sure what you mean exactly. If you mean replacing your CD burner with a DVD burner then just use the same wires the CD Burner uses. If you plan on adding a second burner then use the extra drive connections thats inside they look exactly the same as your Cd burner connections.Here is a how to page Link

No I mean a external DVD burner with wire connections to the Dell. If this is even possible.

Have you got empty USB ports on the Dell >>>> If so, get an external burner, they are reasonably priced..... Good luck

Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD burner

This is a standalone unit such as a VCR. PC connection is not possible, not without a convoluted hookup, anyway; I guess a fellow could use a TV tuner card & come off of the output...etc., but your best bet would be to either install an internal burner, or USB at this point.
