Problem playing DVD-R on standalone player

Hi,

I bought a cheap standalone DVD player from K-Mart y/day for $59. When I tried to play some burnt DVD-R's, the player would only play half the time. It would whirr and whirr, then eject the disc OR the next time it would play with no problem.

I took it to work and put it in a better (dearer) player - LG - and it worked first time. I had another cheap player before this one and it worked pretty well. Do you think that I get a refund and get another cheap-ass player, or pay a bit more ($100 approx) and get something better. Also, is it harder to get DVD+R media, as compared to DVD-R, in Melbourne ? and is it worth bitsetting to convert the file into DVD-VIDEO ?

a burn log showing us your dvd burner, it's firmware and the mid code of the dvd blanks would enable us to analyze the problem

I have seen some of the most funky dvd media from downunder

It's a wonder any of it plays at all

Where do i find the log file for Nero ? Can't remember at the mo. Its c:\program files\ahead\nero

then i can't see it.

Version 6 says NeroHistory.log, I don't know what 7 says. If you have Dvd Decrypter or ImgBurn, open the program, make sure it is in write mode, insert a blank disc that you use & copy&paste the info that appears in the right hand window in to a reply post here.

Apologies for not being around after I posted a query, but back again now ! In short, I ditched the cheap Sansui player and swapped it for a Philips. And no probs playing my DVD-R's now, woo hoo. No sure what happenned with Nero History file, but been updating Nero lately, so that might have something to do with it. Next time I burn a disc will see where the log file is saved.

In regard to Soup's suggestion to start up Decrypter with a blank disc, then grab the log file from there. I tried that, in write mode, but didn't get any response, put in burnt one and got log - is that what you mean ?

Also, just throwing this out (given the intelligent and friendly ppl who inahbit this site) - Does anyone know how I could connect an old amplifier to a 2 devices, e.g. a VCR and DVD player ? The amplifier has audio jack slots for auxilliary devices and i connect these to the VCR or DVD, depending upon what I'm watching at the time. But it would be handy to be able to swap between the two. I can hook the VCR up to the t.v. audio and video, but the picture is average and the sound average. Anyway, maybe someone might have had something similar.
