Help! Trouble burning dual layer DVD+R's

I want you to wait on Chewy before doing any of the following. There is a firmware update for your drive & this is the link, if you choose to flash, download to your Desktop, boot in to safe mode & flash making sure there is no disc in drive. I also found the following while I was checking for a firmware update for you. Convert to a BenQ DW1620 to make the drive region free and improve its capabilities. This would be the link. I am hoping Chewy will stop by but like I said don't do anything until he does or at least somebody with more knowledge than myself on the conversion.

let's back up a little and verify some things

addressing every point I will make is essential

1. your burner is an older model but one of the best ever made, just got bad firmware

2. your blanks are crap, even with a good burner and new firmware

3. Last but not least have you played the iso rip from your computer and
checked it out?

I'm kind of nervous about crossflashing my hard drive, can i just update the drivers without crossflashing? and is this the problem with my burning?

ok....so what I'm interpreting from this is that my dvd burner is good, but the firmware is bad, so i need to update it. There is no new version of MY firmware, so i have to flash it as this other drive? but that can destroy my drive? so i have to be extra careful? My parents would kill me if i destroyed the drive, so I really need to know what I'm doing any have it all laid out before I could start crossflashing, but is there any way to get around doing the crossflashing? Can I just update it as the Philips firmware, not the BenQ?

brand new dvd burner 30-40$

try the dell firmware first but don't expect a whole lot

it said that when i tried to install that new firmware, does that mean it worked? or that it didn't need to be updated?

yes, that's the same file I linked to, sept is better than jan 2005

of course it might not get that burner to burn those dual layer disks

hmm i'm running this thing called flash tool which has that log that i posted last, and it seems to be stalling or freezing locked up or something, because nothing's happened since i clicked upgrade....no sign that it's doing anything...though the green light on my drive is steadily flashing, it's just a constant whir, no noises as if it's doing anything...
