    Labelling DVD's with markers

    Hello,

So far I've used a Pentel N-50 Permanent Marker and a Artline 700 Fibre Tip Permanent Marker to label DVD's.

I have had a quick perusal through the 'labelling' threads and see that Sharpies and printing onto printable DVD's are what many people do.

Wondering if above markers are 'ok' for labelling, or should I invest in a Sharpie or two ? (know that there only a few $)

    Cheers

They even have quick drying to avoid smearing.

keysan.com is available for purchase. Get in touch to discuss the possibilities!

I like to print my "pro" backups sometimes, but I mainly use sharpies, & more recently started using the actual cd/dvd markers. They supposedly have a different type of ink that will not harm the cd/dvd like a sharpie might.

Probably, but they were basically the same price at my local Office Max, so I bought them.

BTW........not saying there is anything wrong with them, just thinking about the company behind it. You know....$$$$$$$.

Sharpies are said to be fine for writing on a DVD, but they were were not good for writing on CDs.
A DVD is a sheet of writable media in a sandwich of 2 acrylic disks, whereas as a lot of writable CDs (if not all of them) were simply a piece of paper glued to a single acrylic disk. A sharpie would eventually bleed through the paper and ruin the cd.
Being as a DVD is actually an acrylic disk on the bottom and another acrylic disk on the top, sharpies seem like they ought to be fine on them.

The backing of the paper on better quality CDs made a difference in how they held up to sharpies, I guess.
I was unfortunate enough to have some very cheap store brand cds that were so flimsy, that after a few months the paper backing actually started flaking off whether they had any kind of markers used on them or not! LOL
