I've started to have trouble with dvd's not playing back. All have been burned using DVDShrink and/or DVD Decrypter using an LG GSA 4163B and Nero 7. I don't use one type of media so they could be DVD-R or +R, but are either TDK or Verbatim printables. Anyway, the discs have all been successful burns, and have all been played at least once - both on the PC and stand alone dvd players. Strangely, I've now had 4 discs all refuse to playback on either system - the discs appear to have nothing on them. What could cause this? The discs are stored in cases, away from sunlight or heat, and in most cases have only been viewed one or twice. It isn't possible that there could be some kind of anti-copy device that causes discs to self destruct after a time - could there?
no more playback

You don't have adhesive labels on them do you? I guess not since you say there are printable.
Verbs will usually last for eons.
Does Windows not see anything? It would seem the TOC is not readable.
I know you have stored them well, but it does seem they have degraded.

thanks guys
that's right Blutach - no labels. Gave them away long ago. Nothing but trouble. As for a Nero scan katzdvd - no go. It's as if there is no data on the disc to read. Windows reports the discs as 'full' and I know there is data on them, but it just can't be read. The DVD player (which has previously played all discs) reports 'disc error' but that is very generic. I guess Blutach is right - the discs have degraded for whatever reason. It's possible I just got a bad batch of discs because now when I think about it, I've had the odd occassion where Nero doesn't 'see' a blank disc in the burner, so I put another from the same spindle in and it goes right to work. Weird....Comment

Have you tried cleaning them? Right near the hub where to TOC is stored.

Also try a firmware update (not that this can help or explain the behaviour in your standalone).
