nero 6 giving illegal disk error

hi everyone, as I always say you people kick some ace!!
ok here one that got me stumped. I usaully use dvd+ disk to burn movie back-ups. but the wife grabed dvd-r and I didn't even notice duh! but here's the deal I was burning back-ups like crazy with no problems on the dvd-r. until I picked up a adware bug I couldn't get rid of after using all spyware removal programs. so I just said the heck with it and formatted and restore my system. <aka> xp so I did all my updates installed nero 6 back on to the latest update. and now getting illegal disk error. my firmware is up to date and everything just blows mind why it won't work now. on the dvd-r any idea? here's my saved log.

While we are waiting on the log to be approved for viewing...

A few things that are the usual suspects and are covered in the GROB...

Check firmware to make sure it is up to date.
    Make sure DMA is enabled.
    Always use quality media.

well chewy ya hit the BSOY that is what I have as far as firmware update and it is on sohw 1633s instead of the sohw 1653s but that is the same firmware I was using before to do the back-ups when I ran the nero info tool it showed dvd-r compatiable. I looked for any other update for the 1633s but that is the lastest and it is dated 2005. not sure of what ya mean corssflash as I am not newbie to burning but half *ss dvd guy,,,lol
oh duh sorry had to edit this I looked @ your post again and just notice it was a typo lol cross flash I get ya now. corssflash thought hmm new program,,,lol sorry chewy. so I can cross flash to a different firmware? just double checking before I do it. scared had some bad flashes before on bios update on CPUs.

the 1633 is a 1653, and as long as you use codeguys patched firmware, it's
as safe as a regular flash

I downloaded both firmwares and opened with mediacodespeededit program

your mid code is supported in the 1653 firmware

as the burner is so old you need to do the flash or buy a new one

boot into safe mode after downloading and extracting the firmware, flash away, make sure drive is empty

welp chew I did the firmware cross from a 1633s to a 1653s both files ran fine. but didn't change the problem. got a sledge hammer? just kinda lost how can I birn over 30 movies and do a format and reinstall of xp and now it won't burn the dvd-r that just freaky nero starts out than goes to writing lead in and sits there than goes to illegal disk. pop out she comes the frizbee..or coaster whatever you like.

well those are not good enough to draw any conclusions,

              1. try a better media
              or
              2. try imgburn after freeing up some resources, you don't have enough ram
hardly to run xp much less burn dvd's with ultra buffer and nero

hi ya guys back again. welp throwing in the towel I can burn dvd+r fine which I always could. just been beating my brains out on the dvd-r burn can't do it even if I beg. I was counting how many dvd-r that I burned on and it was 32 disk all work fine. like I said till I did a format and restore of XP. now even IMG burn says incorrect format. maybe it was just a fluke and I hit 32 good dvd-r and the rest are crap.....lol they a hp 16x and yes not top of the line but I never spent over 20$ for dvd media and have over 900 movies. all good to go. so thanks for the input chewy. anyone want 50 dvd-r coasters,,,,lmao later guys...

wait till those mediocre disks start giving you trouble playing, and they will,
I know, that's why I got into quality media and quality scanning
