    Nero 7 burning problem--Please help!

I've tried a ton of things to fix this, and in everything I've been reading I can't figure out what the issue is. I've reinstalled Nero, made sure DMA is enabled (which it was and still is), tried burning at a slower speed, etc. I first encountered the error when trying to burn a CD-R with data and Nero listed a session fixation error. So, I tried burning the files to the disc with Windows and they burned just fine until I tried burning data files to a DVD+R. So, I tried Nero again after reinstalling it, and attempted to burn the data files the DVD and Nero gave me a Invalid block address error message. Below you will find the log from the failed DVD attempt. The only thing that confuses me about it is the ATAPI because when it lists if it's detected or not it says: detected: ? So, any help would be appreciated. The weird thing is that I can burn an audio disc w/Nero just fine.

    Log:

    the failed DVD attempt
expect some failures with those blanks, especially with a new model laptop drive

it's going to be hard to isolate the problem, is it nero, vista, drive or the blanks

    try ImgBurn and another burn

then if that fails you need to try some premium blanks like verbatim, even sony would be better

burning cd's doesn't tell us anything except that your drive isn't totally dead

It wasn't just one failed data DVD attempt...we're talking multiple. It seems that I've all of a sudden hit a wall where Nero just doesn't work for data. Like I said, with Windows I can successfully burn a data CD, but I have no luck with either program when it comes to the DVD discs. I don't get it because I've used Philips, maxell and TDK discs and I have no success. Most often, it seems that the discs are still burnable though (as typically no data is actually recorded before the error occurs). I'm gonna try a couple other burning programs and see what happens and if I have no luck, I may be asking for other suggestions!

don't install anything else but imgburn, that may be the problem, other programs just hose your system and then no program will work, imgburn has a troubleshooting tool, download and install it

Well, I downloaded ImgBurn, but it doesn't seem as easy to use as other programs...I don't know how to burn a data DVD with it. I'm trying to burn some .avi videos as data (not as a playable DVD). Do I need to be in build mode before I write it or what? Whatever I'm doing it seems to not recognize the files as "supported". I'm confused. Could you walk me through what I need to do? Thanks a lot!

Open ImgBurn and choose Mode -> Build, or use the Ctrl+Alt+B option. This opens Build Mode and you will see this screen. From here, you can add/remove files or folders to your ISO. You can choose to type the folder location in the drop down box, or browse for files/folders via the icons on the...

            good guide, several there

I stumbled my way thru it without a guide, just choose build and then choose your burner as destination

be sure and stop along the way and set the burn speed to something reasonable

go to the tools in imgburn and filter driver load order

use clipboard and paste into a reply

it's looking like you have a bad burner, got any better blanks to try

I've used Philips, maxell and TDK
                all bottom of the barrel

I have to guess it's the bad blank media you are using (CMC MAG-M01-00) I did a google on the error you are having and the people that had this problem was using these very same discs have a look here .If I was you I would go to Best Buy and get yourself some Verbatims or Sonys

I find it so hard to believe that the burner is bad because I just bought this laptop less than 2 months ago, and I think I've only burned about 8-10 DVD's in that amount of time. Like I mentioned before, Nero won't burn any data discs (CD or DVD) at all, but the burner has no problem still burning data to a CD with Windows. Would a burner burn some things like that and not others if it was bad, or would it just not burn at all? I really appreciate your help. Also, I'm really disappointed even if it's the media I'm using because I thought TDK was supposed to be considered "1st class" according to the media guide I have, but it turns out these particular discs are actually manufactured by someone else and so they're "3rd class" instead. If you think my burner is still okay judging by the information I've given you above, then I will definitely get some new media. Would you suggest Sony or Verbatim like 'BR7' said?

I don't like the looks of the toshiba or the gear filter drivers

they probably came with your laptop's software, if we remove them and reboot you will lose the ability to burn with those programs but I don't see much choice

really too many variables, bad drivers, new untested drive, bad blanks

call toshiba if that's who made your laptop?

And tell them what?...that I think the burner's broken? or just see if anyone else has had any problems and see if they have a new driver or something?

Sorry, been out of town for work for a week.

My boyfriend installed iTunes for his new video ipod. I read through that info about GEARAspiWDM.sys and let me just say that it scares me...So, what do I do now? Should I just uninstall iTunes (which would be fine with me), or do I need to do something else to fix it?

use imgburn to remove the gear/itunes filter with imgburn, reboot and test a burn at 4x

be prepared to call toshiba about their driver, I am hesitant to remove it tho
