    GSA-4160b PMA failure Error dvd-r

Hi folks. Ive come to see if any of you people in the know could help me in trying to understand why all of a sudden im finding it so hard to burn my media.

I have been using the above burner for the past 3-4 years *maybe longer!* with very little problems apart from in the earlier times when i changed media to memorex.
Few points to make it beit easier:

The firmware is all up to date
ive not changed any media *Dadtawrite Grey general purpose DVD-R 8x* ive burned maybe 100 or so dvds with no problem up to now.
I have been using a older version of Nero mainly due to me not as we say "rocking the boat" with new software.
I only burn my media at 4x and have had no problems till now.
i normally cut most resources ie, net, firewall, antivirus, other spyware progs when burning.
ive been using latest version of dvd fab to copy, dvd shrink 3.2 to shink it down to 4300mb *custom* and Nero to burn. It seems to be falling over with the burning though. ive tried 8 times so far and all the same error.

I did buy some Verbatium DVD-RW that never got used for our dvd recorder in the living room, so i tried burning one of those and it burned first time! which is good, but i cannot understand how i have burned in excess of 100 dvd's which all work fine, and now it wont burn the lead in!

could anyone help me out with trying to descyper the log history?
most of the techy bits just go right over my head! Heres the log!:

the burner may just have died, it's old

the drivers look bad tho, with sonic I see, they can get corrupt and ruin any burn

test another burner or test that one in another uncontaminated computer

the disks and nero should be fine

thanks for your extremely quick reply.. I dont understand if the burner is dead why does it still burn the verbatium dvd-rw's ok? You think it could just be DVD-R related? Compared i guess yea it is old.
i tried another burning program and it just did the same, wouldnt write the lead in and error'd out.
im gonna try testing same discs with my brothers oem dvd burner that came with the pc *thats old as well but it has hardly been used* and see if that does the trick, if i can eliminate the -R side of the burner being broke then ill invest into another burner i think.
i have had a few duff discs in a row before now so i separatedthe spindle in the middle and burned one to get that log and still same.. i dunno
