Need a bit of help n advice (noob!).

    Hi all.
Need a bit of advice hope you can help. The problem is, after ive burnt a dvd back up when played back it pixelates and freezes after about 20 mins
    I'm using the following:

    Liteon SOHW-1673S (stock firmware).
Ritek G05 DVD-R Printable surface.(only started having trouble lately, burnt the first 150 ok)

Done the disc test in nero

    Starting file test
    Error reading D:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB
    Error reading D:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_4.VOB
    Error reading D:\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB
    Files: 15
    Directories: 2
    Size: 2694 MB
    Errors: 3
    Speed: 2.6 X (3541 KB/sec)
    File test completed
    Starting surface scan
    Good: 60.09 %
    Damaged: 0.00 %
    Unreadable: 39.91 %
    Surface scan completed

so any help would be great.

    Jay.

I'll pop my set up in just in case.

    XP Home
    Amd 64 3000+
1 Gig ddr 400 adata dual channel
    Asus A8N-Sli Premium board
WD 160g drive SATA (my 250 just broke on me grrr)
    6600 GT card
    Mercury 450W PSU

    welcome to the forum

cpu the ram and hard drive should not be an issue

your choice of blank media couldn't be much worse, they are extremely undependable and known to degrade faster than almost any other disk

    bottom line, they suck

as your burner ages, that's an older model expect disks that barely worked before to not work anymore

see the sticky about posting a nero log in this forum, we might be able to help you, don't expect those G05's to stay readable for very long tho

I can chime in on this also,

You should consider trying some Taiyo Yuden discs. That would be the first place I would go. The Taiyos are excellent quality and if you still have problems with these then you know its not the media blanks and you can look at other less likely factors. I suspect it probably is the ritek discs.

Or may be Verbatim. I have used another one, Postec. that also provides good quality. Tested it and compared with verbatim. You need to understand that the brand name may not be the exact identification of the quality of the media. For example I have a Sony RW, which basically uses a third grade media (or coating as some prefer to say). There is a free tool which can tell you what is the manufacturer's ID for a media, but sorry I can't remember the name. Another way is to check with ImgBurn. If you run ImgBurn with your media inserted it will show you the exact manufacturer ID in its log window.
