    Won't read e:\ (cd/dvd) drive

I have a Sony Vaio laptop... VGN-FS830/W... and I am running Windows XP. Today I was burning 6 songs onto a cd-rw using Sonic Stage. I received an error saying it couldn't transfer the last song. Now, even though I have rebooted twice and tried everything *I* know, the computer won't read my e:\ drive (cd/dvd). Nothing physical happened to the computer so I must assume it is a glitch or error or possible registry issue somewhere but I don't know what to do from here. I tried inserting another cd, and it tells me to insert a disc into e:\ It has never done this to me before.

    welcome to the forum

the quickest way to try to tell if it's hardware or software is to take a bootable cd/dvd and use the drive to boot the computer

I guess you would need to call sony or take it to a technician

your manual should tell how to get it to boot to a cd, having a bootable cd is another matter
