I am using the R220. Carts are about 1/2 full or more, black cart new. Same carts as always. I did a head cleaning, no broken lines in the test print. I will do it through the control panel as you suggested, I don't know what the difference is, but I will give it a shot.

Are you using new stock discs right now? What are your painting conditions like? And, how exactly do you paint? A couple to three light coats?

maybe you need to prime the disks before printing? sounds like a bad topcoat on the disks, funny the same problem with 2 new brands?? but not old stock?

No the stock is about 5 months old. I just lay out some old newspaper flat and spray the disc once but making two passes. I hope this is not something to do with a new way of manufacturing, cause I just order 200 of the -R. SuperMediaStore assured me that these were produced in Japan. I bought the ones in the new packaging. Looks like a square box with 25 in each (there not the tape wrap). Then I saw that Meritline was cheaper so I bought 200 more and these were the tape wrap. When they arrive I will test and see if there is a difference in the printing. Will report my results.

Just a thought, are you using Epson ink or a compatible?

I am using G & G compatible Ink, purchased from Supermediastore. It is the same ink I have always used.

I use exactly the same printer and the same cartridges (also purchased from Supermediastore)...HOWEVER, I've never printed on anything other than the white printables (specifically, the TY purchased from Supermediastore) and I've never had a problem - even with the newest batch I just purchased.

Are you talking about the printing part or the clear topcoat spraying? My issue is with the final clearcoat application. Do you apply that to your discs?

Update - These were purchased from Meritline.
After all without us they wouldn't be in business. Whatever happened to customer service. Just to name one, look at when you call a company. Press 1 for English, etc etc wait ten minutes then the phone hangs up.
I just got off the phone with them (Meritline) ..well...off the phone with their automated machine, after it hung up on me. I needed to talk to them about an RMA #, since I've already used a bit of the media, & I can't return the full stack to them. To make a long story short, I guess I'm stuck with $60 + worth of junk that I can't use for the intended purpose...
For the record, I contacted Supermediastore first (I mistakingly thought I had purchased from them first), got tech on the line in about 3 min., he told me that it is most likely a defective batch (both brands?) & that they would replace them for me. He hasn't heard any issues like mine, so I don't know if they have changed anything with the surface of the discs or not...

At any rate, I am getting a new printer & a couple different types of discs today & will update on my progress. At this point, I am still in the dark as to where the problem really lies...

No, I do not. Never found it necessary with the white printables - although it may very well be with the silver ones.

I like to spray the white ones to achieve the high gloss finish, as well as protect against water, scratches, etc. The silver ones are shiny enough on their own, they don't really need a gloss coat, but I do it anyway for the scratch protection.

I only use the white one and I always spray them for all the reasons katz mentioned. Any little moisture will ruin the ink.

katz I'm a little confused, is this a printing problem or a spraying problem. As to say does the print job look good and then gets ruin after the spraying is done? Or is the print job not clear to begin with.

                        I got these today.

They print fine, though they seem to be thinner then the ones I've purchased before which were the tape wrap ones. Maybe thats why they sell for a little less. They were on sell the other day for $65.99 for 200.
Funny thing is my first burn and I got my best scan ever.
8x -R burn and scanned at 4x. I don't know why but I seem to get better scans with -Rs than I do with +Rs

That's what it is; the print in fine, but as soon as I apply the clear sealer, I get fisheye, small slight bubbles or "pock marks". or a dull finish, take your pick.

                          Sorry for the confusion!

I never was aware of the option of spraying printed discs. I continue to learn from this forum...although given the problem you're encountering, I'm not sure that I will apply this 'lesson' at this time!!

Yeah rosariorose9, you can buy the Patrica Nimocks spray at Wal-Mart in the crafts dept. I've tried the Krylon brand but prefer Patrica Nimocks. Comes in glossy or matte finish, I like the glossy myself. I find it a must to spray because of the ink will easily smugde, plus gives the picture a nice glossy finish.

@katz sounds like you got a bad batch of discs. I received both the tape wrapped and ones that come in the square box. Both print fine.

Sorry katz scratch that what I said about you having a bad batch of disc. If the printing is good than it must be the spray. Have you tried turning the can upside down and spray for a few seconds, to clear the nozzle? I'm think there might be build up of crude in the nozzle.
