Have you tried turning the can upside down and spray for a few seconds, to clear the nozzle? I'm think there might be build up of crude in the nozzle.
Anyone Using Printable Disks? I Have A Problem...

Ok;
I have printed a few more discs w/ the Epson, same as prev. posts. Sprayed clear gloss, but am ending up w/ a very dull, cloudy finish. No fisheye yet. I have installed the new HP printer \ Photosmart D5160, & have printed a few discs w/ it. I will attempt to spray them tomorrow.
But, to start with, I am already unhappy with the HP CD print software, it is very inferior to the Epson Cd software. For starters, if you want to insert text or name the disk, it inserts & prints a big horrible looking rectangle block that you type the text into.
Looks real nice on the background pic., let me tell you... (sarcasm)
No way in the software to get rid of the rectangle block. The only option would be to open your background pic in another editing pgm. & add the text there, making it part of the image. Nothing like making things easier by adding extra unnecessary steps...Comment

That sucks about the HP software. I'm not too happy with Epson, though. They filed suit to halt the manufacture of 'substitute' replacement ink cartridges, and now all you can get for some Epson printers (e.g. the Epson R380 which I now use to print my labels) are the Epson cartridges - which are gawd awful expensive. I'd thought about switching to HP, but now with what you indicated that doesn't seem like a viable alternative.Comment

I'd thought about switching to HP, but now with what you indicated that doesn't seem like a viable alternative.
I did that with about 6 disks yesterday, but I can't get the HP to print the disk "on center" whan using my Epson Print CD software created project. It has manual adjust where you can drag the disk to try and center it, but anywhere I drag it to makes no change on the final print...Comment

My chat session w/ HP tech support about this printer...
Frank: Hello Tim.
Tim R: Hi Frank,I am trying to print on printable cd's
Frank: Welcome to HP Total Care for HP Photosmart products. My name is Frank. May I have your Telephone number starting with the Area Code first please, as we need to update the information in our records.
Tim R: unlisted...
Frank: Okay
Frank: May I know the Operarting system in which printer is installed ?
Tim R: win xp
Frank: Okay
Frank: How may I assist you today?
Tim R: is there a way to label the disc in the "text block" area, without having the actual rectangle block print on the disc?
Frank: I understand that you have D5160 printer and woould like to know how to remove the rectangular box on the rectangular box Ami Correct ?
Tim R: no...
Tim R: opps - I guess you are right! Sorry
Frank: You can only change the caption( text), font size. However you cannot remove the rectanglular box.
Tim R: What are my options then? As this method makes an unsightly mess on custom printed discs, with pictures, etc...
Frank: let me know the application you are using ( just to confirm)
Tim R: well, I tried using the software that came w/ the printer to start, that is where this box is appearing.
Frank: The software is Photosmart premier
Tim R: I then tried to print prev. created projects from my Epson Print CD, but the HP won't print them on center.
Frank: You an select the image to be printed and then can add a caption within the rectangular box
Tim R: I know, but the whole rectangle box prints too, & makes a mess of the disc...
Frank: You cannot change the position of the rectangular caption box
Tim R: okay...
Frank: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Tim R: why does hp want to clutter a custom disc up like this?!?
Frank: I understand your cocern. The rectangle box is to enter the caption/name
Tim R: printer will be returned to store then, as I can't use it...like this...
Frank: Yes
Just thought I would add this update, in case anyone here is considering an HP printer purchase that uses the Photosmart Premier software. You may want to give the purchase a second thought...Comment

Rimage Everest II Thermal DVD/CD Printer
Yeah, that's a beautiful option, & probably the best one, but we're trying to do this somewhat "on the cheap" for a religious organization that doesn't have excess funds available. Since these are "limited run" cds/dvds, the home printer setup was working out well until these issues started cropping up.
Sharpies are fine for my home use, but we need a somewhat "professional" look.
Guess I'm back to square one with this issue...Comment

Katz,
That cr conversation would be hilarious if we all hadn't suffered through the identical conversation countless times before...Comment

Wow that Everest II is way out of my league. Sure looks nice tho.
Kats, sounds like you'll be better off returning that HP.
I'm using an Epson RX700, which I believe has been discontinued.
I was wondering if you had look at any of these yet?

ipaulo - I still haven't really nailed down the problem yet; I don't know if it is a printer problem or discs, but I am still leaning towards bad discs. Bad part of this situation is that the retail stores in my area now have a 15 day return policy, & of course I am past that...So now I have printer that I can pretty much just use for flyers, photos, etc. Discs are totally out with this HP premier software.
However, I was told by a friend that Acoustica CD/ DVD Label Maker software will work with this printer, so I may give that a shot. I had used that in the past for some stuff (the free trial period). All my projects are created in Epson Print CD, so I have a bit of "re-doing" on my hands...Comment

My guess is that it's bad discs as well. Even though I'm ticked at Epson for their efforts to squash competition on their ink sales, I'd hate to lose the Epson Print CD software - it's very flexible. Have you tried the Nero Cover Designer software? I own the entire Nero 'suite', but the Cover Designer can be downloaded free at various sites. Not quite as good as Epson (for example you can't adjust the size of the inner diameter), but I used it once in a pinch and it worked pretty wellComment

I have Nero Cover Designer, & I can use that; I wasn't aware that you could create a label in that software that you can print directly onto a disc. I will try it; that may be the solution to this, although the HP printer may just end up printing it "off center" like it did when I tried the Epson software with the HP...Comment
