Burn process fails everytime at 4x

Hi, recently I purchased a 100 pack of cmc 16x printable dvd+r's and so far I've burned about 50 of them without problems. But now I can't burn any and I've tried atleast 10 but they all either give burn errors and say "burn process failed" with various other errors or pass burning but fail verification and thus don't work when I attempt to use them. I've tried both the latest version of nero micro 8.1.1.0 and the latest version of imgburn with no success. I'm also attempting to burn them at the slowest speed of 4x. I know people may point to me using cheap cmc dvds as the cause of the problem and I've ordered myself a new set of blank dvds (not cmc this time lol) to make sure its not my dvd writer but in the mean time can anyone deduce anything else from the nero error log below? I don't always get all these errors or sometimes get other errors. My dvd recorder is LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B with the latest firmware.

your dma is off on that top maxtor drive. look at the log

you are running sp2 on xp?

unusual for a hard drive to slip into pio mode, might need a new cable, a stronger power supply

    something is wrong for sure

I'm actually running a dual boot with windows xp sp2 and windows vista. But the log is from windows xp. How do I turn the dma on? I'm using a 450W power supply is that enough? What else can I do?

the power supply would depend upon the brand, is it a good one or a cheap no-name?

My psu is a cheap generic brand called winpower and I've been using it for over 2 years without problems. I had the exact same psu in my sister's pc and it didnt even last a year. So I assume its hugely variable in quality. The cmc's that I bought came in shrink wrap packs of 50. So yeah it could be a bad batch? But I'm just worried about this dma thing. Maybe I should take off the power for 2 hard drives and just run one and see how that goes? Can anyone tell me more about the errors I get in the log? Like pma update failure? key medium error? and could not perform disc at once?

power supplies usually go out one of two ways, all at once or a little at a time

it's kind of hard to pinpoint problems when everything is a possible suspect, I would rather use good media, good burner, good burn program, and a good power supply and not waste my time and trouble and money making coasters or disks that barely burned and will be unplayable in a year or two

Another thing I was wondering, the link you gave me for the dma modes, it says dma ultra mode 5 is the fastest, but one of my hard drives is in mode 6? Is the guide old?

no you are running some kind of ide emulation drivers and your sata is showing as having dma, technically it doesn't(another can of worms)

the guide is fine, did you fix your dma, I would unhook some stuff from that power supply and order a good one soon

Yeah I fixed the dma, 2 hard drives on the primary ide are in ultra mode 6, and another hard drive is in secondary ide which is also in ultra mode 6, and the other secondary ide which i assume is the dvd writer is in ultra mode 2. Which psu's would you recommend?

there's little difference between mode 6 and 5, half the companies said heck with 6 (133) and just went to work on the new sata

                      irrelevant to your problems

So would you say that its definitely a problem with my psu and not the media i'm using? Or are you saying I should change my psu because it could be causing the problems?

                          this is the problem

you are not getting the concept of having everything right instead of having everything wrong

why can't the media and the power supply both be the problem and maybe even your burner wearing out?

Yeah it could be, would be really frustrating if it was all three lol I've taken off both the sata hard drives for the time being and just have a 80gb ide hard drive and my dvd writer. Will try another burn and see how that goes.
