Just my 2 cents, I used the 1Y6 firmware once Chewy opened my eyes to it, then tried Liggy and Dee's version of 1.07 firmware, been using it flawlessly since.

Similar and both excellent for the 3550 IMO. Done thousands of burns, scans, reads with it and still going strong.

I had troubles with mine after 6-700 burns, guesstimating? Got dirty, my fault! Cleaned it a few times, found a dab of silicon on large chip and it looked like it had outgassed when overheated, probably from trying to burn too many disks in a row without cooling inbetween, cleaned the lens and it was fine, I put it in my daughter's computer. What made mine good was it gave accurate scans as compared to my benq 1650, a lot of nec 3550 didn't scan well. Why?

I still blast mine with air once in awhile, not burning with it too much now, I don't want it to die on me.

I always thought it was great for scanning, surprised that many were not.

Maybe I got lucky for once, lol.

                          How to flash?

What is the proper way to flash a drive? Just so there is no misunderstanding or misconceptions?

I prefer to do the flash from safe mode, sticks it in pio mode and keeps a lot of programs from interfering

standalone master is one other thing that used to be reccomended

always make sure the flash matches the drive and the drive is empty

                              what is a standalone master?

So do I just put it in SAFE MODE and then run the Y6 that I ran from Liggy & Dees is it self contained or do I have to use Bin Flash or something else?
