Phillips DL Burning failure Nero 8 error 1135

I am hoping that someone might be able to help me help. I am a newbie to DL burning and am trying to burn my first DL disc containing a 1.40hr video with some menus.

Problem: disc burning fails at 51% (this is the fourth attempt)

Using win xp
Phillips 1640k DVD+RW drive
3gb ram
media Phillips DVD+R Double Layer disc

I have previously used the same burner to create many single layer dvds without any problem. Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. It looks to me like it stumbles when it comes to changing the layer.

those blanks are probably too new for your burner

they were labeled 8x right?

Yes that is correct they are labelled 8x.

i bought them because they are listed in the compatibility manual. I am trying to burn at 2.4x i do have the latest (3.7) firmware for my drive. I am waiiting on phillips to send me request form to send them my nero log but i dont hink tey will do it very quickly. I do need to get this finnished this weekend really.

Like I said your project will fit on a single layer, just use a quality one like verbatim, phillips has some of the worst blanks made. That dual layer mid code works fairly well with newer burners and other brand names?

I previously burnt this onto a SL TDK disc which i have used for all my projects before. when i have tried to burn this project onto these discs nero reports thats its too big for the disc hence i reduced the quality on but when it is played back on my TV the video appears to be slightly pixelated.

I mean the discs that are listed in the phillips manual as suitable. copied from PDF file

from my 16 dvd+r verbatim, which should hold it and give you a good burn, your burner is getting older, stay away from dual layer if you can

Thanks for all your suggestions chewy, very kind of you to take the time to help.

I think i may get a new burner, any suggestions?, i am not bothered about speed, i am more interedted in quality, realiability and good playback.

one more question....
If i am going to buy a newer burner does that then mean that my output quality will increase witha better disc? If that is so, i have obviously missed the point somewhere, i thought that DVD's were DVD's i didnt realise that there was a diffrence when it comes to playback?

I have been using a mini dv camcorder at the moment but it has just given up the ghost and lost the will to live. i am going to upgrade to a HD hard drive type camcorder but i dont know which one yet. I guess then i will need a burner that supports HD.

the samsung's are probably safest, see what you can find and post back before buying

the HD camcorders would probably do well converted 1 hour to a single layer

if you can tell a difference?

If you needed to get better quality then you would have to burn to blu-ray and figure
a professional cam, how many zero's can you afford?
