1st off, thank you for your reply.yeah,i borrowed a verbatim -r just to see if i had better luck with -r's.I use either sony or maxell +r's.I used to skimp on blank dvd's but stopped that really quick.when you asked"any idea how this got on your computer",what are you referring to?This is the only computer i have here,i could take it somewhere else and try if i need to.When i use sony and maxell i'm getting, what looks to me,the same errors. My knowlege is fairly limited,so forgive me in advance..thank you,.....kevin

no problem, that's why this forum is here

let's download and install a good burning program and use it to troubleshoot

your burner may be bad and nothing we do will fix it

I would hate see you return it and find out that the problem is your computer and it's software

download Imgburn and install, and then under tools post the driver filter load order log

see the link at the top of this forum

we can use it to remove those pesky drivers after getting a closer look at them

for all we know nero is corrupt also

once it's copied there just use the paste function immediately

when you copy anything, that's where it goes to the clipboard, only 1 thing tho

the clipboard is hidden, just open a new text file and hit paste if you want to save

remove everything but imapi and redbook

reboot and do a test data dvd with imgburn or a video disk?

make sure you don't burn faster than 8X

you can test with nero if it was a recent clean install

well,i've burned two discs with no errors now.....i removed those other drivers.we'll see if i continue to have no errors.okay,so what's the deal, how did those drivers get on there?I mean,do they come with certain programs, and why would they be mucking up the process?

I am particular about what programs I install, some are put there by the manufacturer?

damn.....so now,the past two times i tried to burn,it stops at 88-87% and just stops---the burner continues to go,but it stops burning.one of the times, after 5 or6 min of not moving ahead,it said'burner not available'and it locked up.i couldnt cancel the burn,i couldn't do anything on my computer.Same thing the 2nd time.Locked up,i had to unplug and manually reboot.i wanna break things at this point

                            Physical memory : 511MB (523500kB)
                            Free physical memory: 339MB (348152kB)
                            mine with xp

                            Physical memory : 894MB (915492kB)
                            Free physical memory: 331MB (339396kB)
                            yours

and you have the added disadvantage of using usb where the cpu has to handle the burn pretty much all by itself

I use an internal burner and the southbridge chipset handles it

bottom line, turn off stuff if you can't keep it from loading at boot up, leave the computer alone when you burn, no downloading, etc

                            reboot often

so.....i've been burning with imgburn with no problems whatsoever,so i've ruled out my problem being my burner.I'm thinking it may be a corrupt version of nero? That's all i can think of.I think i should take what i have off(it's the trial version with a code put in)and use a friends disc to put it on.my fingers are crossed!Thank you so much for your help,Chewy!
