    Can't seem to burn DVD-Rom's

Burned various discs (TY DVD +R) using both a Samsung and a Lite-On, with ImgBurn set to change booktype to DVD-Rom. Additionally, I'm using the Lite-On utility which sets the booktype as DVD-Rom when burning with the Lite-On. Despite having done this, when I check the disc using the Nero info tool, and also the Lite-On Smart Burn Media check, the burned discs read as "DVD Video, DVD+R". Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or what I'm forgetting to do??

    Thanks.

When you have completed a burn with ImgBurn, scroll down the right hand window to information last recorded. Samsung should be automatic I know the LiteON utility works because I have used it myself in the past.

Soup (and any others that want to chime in!),

In ImgBurn's "information last recorded", it shows "Physical Format Information Last Recorded" as: Booktype "DVD-ROM". But when I check the recorded disc using the Smart Burn Media Check and Nero Info tools, it shows the booktype as "DVD+R" and "DVD VIDEO (DVD+R)" respectively !! Commercially recorded dvds show in Smart Burn Media Check as "DVD-ROM"

I'm guessing (based on the ImgBurn data noted above) that I have, indeed, produced a DVD-ROM disc and that I'm using the testing tools incorrectly (or reading the results wrong), but I'm not sure what the heck I'm doing wrong..

For your possible help in diagnosis, here's the ImgBurn log:

As always, thanks for the guidance...

I wouldn't worry about what anything else says, if ImgBurn shows that it has been booktyped to Dvd-Rom, then it has. It is pretty hard to tell because I am not looking at what you are in the other programs, some screenshots might help.

All they are telling you is what type of disc it is, it is still a Dvd+R.

              ^^^

Makes sense. Thanks. Kinda bummed, though, that there's no objective way to test a disc to determine its booktype.

Of course there is. Pop the disc in and load up ImgBurn in read or write mode. Observe the right hand pane (near the bottom).

Yep! What's extra cool about the info in blutach's post, though, is that you can also use ImgBurn to reveal the booktype of dvds you burned previously... What a great program in so many ways!

                      Thanks again, guys.
