Don't know enough about your system to help you. Did you try putting everything back the way it was in the first place? Where did you try to put the second hard drive? You must place DVD or hard drives in master or slave positions on the cable, and set jumpers on the drives correctly. Putting in a second hard drive should have been easy. Simply by setting the jumper to slave position and putting it on the same cable as your original hard drive. I'll bet your old hard drive jumper was set to master and you tried to use it as a slave. That would have made "all hell break loose". I would place 2 hard drives on the primary controller, on the correct connectors, jumpers set correctly, and the 2 DVD drives on the secondary controller, again setting jumpers correctly. I Need to know more about your setup. I'm assuming all your drives are IDE connected. My toy:

On the back of your burner there is a jumper setting. Usually MA=Master SL=Slave and CS is Cable Select. Just move the jumper to the position you want.
Without knowing which drive is which, I would assume the drive you just put in is less better that the existing one that is in your computer.
If it were me I would put the older one from the other computer as slave and the make sure the newer drive is on master.
Also on the IDE cable have the Master at the end and the slave on the middle connector on the ribbon.Attached Files
