Adding a 2nd DVD Burner problems

Been using a SONY 830-A ,DVD Burner for a year now ( Great Burner )and decided to replace my read only drive with a new SONY 840-A ....they both worked fine until I tried to burn 2 different DVD's with different burning programs at the same time ( DVD DECRYPTER AND IMG BURN ) that's when they both slow to a crawl until I aborted one of them and then the another one finished just fine. I installed the 2nd burner in the same bay as was my old read only and made it the slave. Any Idea's ??? Thanks here is my OS

you can burn one at one time with that set up, if you want to burn two at one time got to have two dif cable, and the sources are from two dif HD

OK, Let's see if I'm following this correctly.....in order to burn at same time & with diff HD's....I need to change my cable set-up to connect one of my HD's to a Primary & one to a Secondary connector and connect a burner to each one of those ( which is master or slave ??) or is there another way???

          Thanks

Both burner have to be masters, that is why you have two diff cable to each burner, I have like that too just burn one after another

you will also need 2 sets of files to burn from seperate hard drives on seperate cables

that's the whole concept behind standalone masters

one of the reasons everything is going to sata

burning programs and windows require that the same set of files be read twice when doing 2 burns at the same time

Thanks Chewy, I'm going to try this set-up but I'll probably just be burning diff files from diff Hd's with different programs (DVD Decypt and Img Burn.) I hope it works

imgburn will open 2 instances with no problem

getting a screenshot with 4 windows evenly spaced for proof was the hardest part

If you are going to be doing any hi def burning in the future like on blu-ray disks you need to be looking into readers/burners that have ONLY SATA connections and capable of burning a BD-R at 6X.

The newer computers of today, like the latest one I have has 6 SATA connections and ZERO IDE master/slave 40 pin 80 lead cables.

The motherboard has ONE connection for a 40 pin 80 lead cable but is vacant with no IDE cable.

Also, upgrade to SP 3 on your operating system and see if you gain any speed or resources.

The master connection is at the end of the IDE cable and the slave connection is in the middle of the IDE cable. Use only master if possible.
