That's the major problem. Cheap media = crappy burns.

Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

As well, you do not need DL media for this burn - it's a waste. The size is 4392Mb, which fits easily onto single layer media.

You should only use genuine Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden media. Many thanks to www.pcx.com.au for their supply and great service.

Thanks so much, I knew there was a reason the discs I bought were on sale for 20$. I read the golden rules so I'll follow those and also I noticed my IDE controller's driver was from 2001 so I updated that and the most recent update is from 2003 so hopefully it works.

Did you notice any other problems that I should fix?

You could check that you have the latest firmware for your burner.

Jumper your dvd burner as master and connect to the end of the ide cable, disconnect the old dvd-rom drive, make sure the burner is connected to closest power adapter to the power supply

dma is off for the dvd-rom, a sure sign of trouble

As blutach mentioned previously, you really need to work with some higher quality media, TY or Verbatim, & also single layer. Dual layer media is iffy, even with the higher quality stuff, although I believe they have improved on it a bit. Follow blutach & Chewy's lead.

I'll go pick some up today, Does it matter what kind of Verbatim single layer discs I buy? Or are all Verbatims good

                          bookmark this thread

like Blutach suggest firmware is important also

when you get some decent single layer(I suggest the 16x dvd+R verbatim)

                          try a burn at 8x

your log still shows problems but you didn't follow my advise about disconnecting the old drive

When I am trying to get a computer to burn dvd's, I prefer that everything be right, not wrong

Might want to watch this short video on how to set master/slave drives. Easier than explaining.
