Try another brand disc...your burner doesn't seem to like these.

Hi Sparta (I like your handle),

        1) Try downloading ImgBurn program

        2) Burn your ISO on Ritek media at speed of 4X first ... if A-OK then may be try 8X but NEVER Faster. Well your laptop DVD Burner can't go faster than 8X anyway!

Then post back here with your result!

        G!

How old is the drive? It might be time to tie it to the railroad tracks...

Slimline drives are usually subpar to begin with, you might try a nice external burner or internal drive in an external enclosure.

it is not even one year old. wen i enquired in HP Service center, they told to take back up of imp files since they might reinstall vista. Is it necessary to reinstall Vista?? Whether it will solve the problem??

If you send it out, does not matter who the manufacturer is, 90% of the time the OS will be reinstalled. When I worked for geeksquad, a lot of the agents would forget to make sure that the customer had a current back up of their current data. Unfortunately I was the agent that got the ear full from the customer. That is one of the reasons why I quit. Also the supervisor had no clue as to how to repair computers. He roasted a laptop, he said that it was getting very hot, so he left it on any way. The laptop fried, he told the customer that it just quit running and he did not know why. The customer signed the paperwork and that ended the liability against bestbuy.

Sparta, leave imgburn on default settings and use Verbatim blanks to burn to. I think you'll find all your troubles will disappear.
                    Oils well thats ends well.

^^ Chewy I am not sure how you find out they are 2003/2004 ...

But Ritek I have found them to be pretty "cheapy" and after 7 or 8 years I wonder if the Dye on them has not gone "Bad" also ... that is why Sparta is having so much headache with them!!!
