Pioneer DVR 216D polling computer

I have an issue that popped up recently. After each boot up (Windows XP), the hard drive light would continuous flash every second or so. Was driving me nuts why this was happening. After doing some reading on this, one cause is a DVD drive polling the computer (auto play). I had 3 DVD burners. My latest one is the Pioneer DVR 216D. I discovered that this drive is the one that is polling the computer. The other 2 don't. Now at each boot up, I have to open and close the tray to get the hard drive light to stop blinking. I just got a 4th burner. I bought the Pioneer DVR 2910 and after getting it, I found it is actually the same DVR 216D. So now I have two of them. Now at each computer boot up, I have to cycle BOTH trays to get the hard drive light to stop blinking. I don't know why this particular drive is doing this and the other two drives don't do this.

Any ideas why this is happening?


Of the 4 drives, 3 are SATA and 1 is IDE. The two DVR 216D's are SATA.

I don't have any hard drives in RAID. The Micron controller controls RAID, the single IDE controller which of I have one IDE DVD drive on it (which doesn't do the polling I talked about) and the eSata port.

I see the jmicron only controls one internal sata?

asus is probably wrong on that

Each problem has been unique but jmicron almost always was the problem

I have one Sata port of the other side of the motherboard, I think Micron controls that (I have nothing hooked to that).

Dunno. I had a different DVD drive hooked to the same SATA port as the Pioneer and it didn't do this. Only when I replaced that drive (a Lite-On) with the Pioneer did this start happening. When I got the second Pioneer, I hooked it to another unused SATA port. The second one does this same thing. I now have 5 devices hooked to the SATA ports, 2 HDD's and 3 DVD drives, none of those are controlled by the Micron controller. The Micron does control the one IDE DVD drive I have (doesn't do this polling thing) and the additional external hard drive I have.

So each time I boot up, I have to cycle the trays on both the Pioneer drives to get the hard drive light to stop blinking. I haven't tried disabling autorun as I rather like that feature and I don't believe you can disable autorun for just one drive. Autorun is kind of a weird deal in Windows. I'm hesitant to start messing with that as I've seen weird results of trying to get it to work right if re-enabling it afterwards (like the box not showing all the options to open with, etc).

does it still do the same thing when it's the only rw-drive connected ?
also, have you tried to hook it up to another/different sata connection ?
you can always unplug the liteon - looks to me like a drive conflict, unless a certain driver is causing the problem.

I tried it on different SATA ports. A friend of mine also had this drive and his did the same thing (hard drive light continuously blinking until cyclying the tray. I finally got rid of both of those drives (I had 2). Just got tired of the continuous blinking and having to cycle the trays. Now I'm good again with 4 different drives that don't do this.
