What's the write speed with todays drives?

Do the old rules still apply with Firmware patches & the new drives of today? Does the general rule of thumb, being half the rated speed of the blank disc still a good guideline? Do you burn @4X with let's say SATA drives? Hopefully you understand what I am getting at & there should be enough pros around here to get some good feedback. Let's not forget how big a part quality blank media plays as well, or does it? Any "if it plays it stays", philosophers out there?

That's hard to say. I get better burns at 8X with my Yuden 02's. Also with a good batch of Verb's 16X is good, but no lower than 12X or your PIF's skyrocket.

Granted this is with new burners.

I should be able to get the Verbatims +/- 16x up in some days.

So far it seems that you can get very good burns even at 20x speed with the right burner.

        Hi Cynthia
I noticed you have a new firmware version for your Lite-On. Is it better than The YYII?

No idea. After the way to often PMA update failures I haven't used this writer much. Only use it for scanning purpose. I think it was posted over at CDFreaks in the thread for that writer.

I know lots of you are seeing ' Program Memory Area Update Failure ' (or ' PMA Update Failure ') type errors and today I've spent a while figuring out why you seem to be complaining that it's just with ImgBurn and other programs don't show the error. The answer is simple, they just ignore it / do...
