Troubles buring with Divx...

Hi i have the latest version of Divx. When i selected certain files to burn they are not loaded to the burn list and i get an error message " DivX Device Transfer Wizard has encountered a problem and needs to close". It has a Debug option but that seems to do nothing. I have downloaded the latest codecs etc and ran Gspot which tells me i have 3 or more codecs which support this avi file.

Still no luck.


Any help would be appreciated.

Do these files have menu or chapter info? Or are they ordinary .avi video files with no frills?

I'm trying to put 3 on a disc (there's more than enough room) but only one will load up. I'm thinking of uninstalling and installing the old version...

They all seem to play fine using the DivX player. I even tried converting them but still the same problem...

Another thing i have just noticed is if i change the settings to HD they load up then when i press start it immediately says transfer cancelled. The disc has something written on it but it won't read in the dvd player...

Are you trying to burn the DivX/AVI files within one of the DivX tools? You don't really need to though, you can just use any DVD burning software, since there's no special formatting that needs to be observed.

Even the DivX files (.divx) with menus won't really require any special burning, as the menus are self contained in the file, and not reliant on the disc/storage structure (UDF/ISO is what I usually use, although check with the player you wish to play these discs on, for example, your DVD player, to see if it has any specific burning requirements).

Sounds like a plan, i'll give DivX the boot and try a new program for burning.

Can you suggest a good program for burning .avi etc straight to disc?

For burning everything DVD I use Imgburn. For audio CDs I use Burrrn Portable or CDBurnerXP. Imgburn is simple. For burning video files to disc, use the Write Files/Folders to Disc option. When it sees you are burning video files it will suggest file system settings. Just click OK or Yes to accept the suggestions. Saves having to figure out the options(ISO 9660 Joliet UDF blah blah) yourself.

Yeah, I started out with Nero 6 Ultimate. That drove me crazy. Every time I wanted a data disc it would start converting the .avi to dvd. That's what provoked me to look for other ways of doing it.

Ok so i burnt the files using ImgBurn but the dvd player will only play the file that originally would burn with the DivX player. This is making me think the others need some special codec that the dvd player does not support as they all play fine on my comp.

I'm currently converting to Mpeg2 to see if that works. Does that sound like the right thing to do???



Alas no luck with converting either... Maybe the files are corrupt...?

Did you make the files that won't play, or did you download them? Are they DRM protected perhaps?

I would install MediaInfo and then run it on the files just to see what's inside. If you have trouble interpreting the results, you can post a screenshot and so we can have a look.

Looks like your file has QPel, which some standalones have trouble with. QPel is a feature of the encoder. In your situation, I would re-encode the AVI using something like AutoGK (guide), or better, use the newer software, AVI Recomp (guide).

Depending on the divx stand-alone player, I've found often I can "clean up" .avi just by loading into AviDemux. Before loading the file, go into Edit=>Preferences=>Automation Tab and make sure all the options are checked. When you load an avi it will automatically reindex, build vbr map etc.. as needed. At least on my Phillips dvp 5990 players, this usually will cause the .avi to be acceptable.

Once the file loads and AviDemux does all it's stuff, just save to disk. Very fast as it does not reencode.

I first i tried AviDemux. When i try to save it i get the same error message as when i try to burn it with DivX.

I also converted with AVI Recomp but that didn't help either, still the same error message when i try to burn using DivX.

I am currently converting with AutoGK to see if that's any different...




AutoGK seesm to have done the trick.
