    Tv-Out

    Just curious.

Do you guys have any idea why I would get garbled image when tryng to watch DVD's through any software player?

I have a PAL tv, I have set all the options to output to PAL, (I even tried auto select)
It seems like it is trying to output NTSC. Would this be the case? It only happens for DVD's though. Windows is fine. The colour goes al weird, and the screen wobbles around, It looks good for a second or two and then it does it again in regular intervals. I seem to have disabled macrovision, but the image quality is un watchable.

I will ship beer to those who help me fix this.

I suppose you're playing a DVD on computer, and trying to view it on PAL-TV.

First, what kind of cable are you using? Composite or S-video?
A composite cable ends (on one end, at least) on a cinch-jack (the jacks you usualy see on the back of you stereo, those white/red ones or black/red ones).
A S-VHS cable has 4 pins on each end (and a 5th plastic one).

Since you see some (wrong) colors, I guess that you're using composite. So your computer should be exporting composite, PAL.
If you can't set all this, try TVtools (I can't find the site at the moment...). It will allow you to set about everyting (even color-carrier-frequency).

You say it only goes wrong vor DVD's, that is? You can see your windows desktop file on the TV? if you just start your DVD software (without DVD), does that still work? if you play your DVD in windowed-format, does that work?

You disabled Macrovision, how? hardware? or software?

The screen wobbles: what do you mean? does it roll top to bottem or bottem to top? Or is it also distorted sidewise?

What video-card do you use? and what DVD soft?

    Cheerz,

      Well.

I am playing DVD's through the DVD_ROM drive.
i am using Svideo out, that is converted to RCA at the other end.

I attempted to disable macrovision through software. I assume this is disabled, as I can still see the picture. In the driver setup, I have the Nvidia card outputing to PAL, via Composite.

I can see the windows dektop fine, the DVD software loads ok, it is just when it comences playing.
The problem still occurs in windows format, The piture is distorted sideways. The top of the screen moves to the right, and then the picture starts to jump up and down.

It fixed it for about a second, and then it slowly rolls back into the loop of error. I am using a Hercules Geforce3 Ti200, 30.82 det's.

Using WINDVD 4, and NVDVD 1.22. They both do the same thing

In any case I would recommend to use TVTool. You can download a 30day Trial Version for free at http://www.tvtool.de and if it works purchase it. It's I guess only 30$ but worth every Cent. I use it for almost one year now and never had any problem watching my DVDs or DivXs on my PAL TV.

try hermanthegerman's sugestion. TVtools lets you adjust almost everything. The problem you describe looks like an sync problem...
The output is definitely not full standard PAL... if you have another TV around try that one (preferrable a newer one). That one might allow more flexible syncing...

WellI have tries all of the PAL options....I live in Australia, and there isnt one that relates to this country.

The closest I can get is United Kingdom PAL.
The other all seem crap. I will get this TVool you speak of, If all else fails I will have to reinstate the hardware option.

Thank you all for the replies.

By the way have any of you had the same troubles?

Nope, not the same trouble, but I did have some other trouble (completely independent of computers) chich gave the same Sync-problem... My dad (and me, I'm only 18 now and it's 5 years ago) opened up the TV and added a switch to make the sync good again.

(For you interested people, the trouble was playing a NTSC video on a PAL TV)
