    question about firmware

    My Drive:
    Toshiba SD-M1612

    Firmware:
    1004

    Date on drive:
    01/23/02

Now all that means is it is a revB drive.

My question is can I make this region free by using the only revB firmware for this drive?

does it matter that the original firmware is 1004, and the patch is 1806?

Im a little hesitant to update the firmware. I just want to make sure.

No, you should be OK with patched version X806. I bought my SD-M1612 4 weeks ago and had the original firmware 1004 (Rev B). I had no problems after flashing X806. Do it the right way though with a minimal DOS boot disk. And deal with software protection in your software player afterwards by using DVD Genie or Region Killer.
