    Dell I7500 W98 to XP DVD n.d.g.!

I have a similar situation to the thread from the Samsung 616 drive user. My hardware is a Dell I7500 200MB PIII 500Mhz doing
well with a Torisan (Sanyo) DVD drive (integrated w a floppy disc drive) DRD
U624 using Dell loaded DVD driver/codec (which also came on unused CD with
    the system documentation). W98SE.
    Upgraded to XP.
Everything worked normally except for DVD use, which generated messages like
it did not recognize the media.
Dell not help as they say the system is 'designed' to run W98 as shipped.
Initially, the two Dell supplied CDs with device drivers and stuff would not
load. That is the setup.exe program would simply hang and get lost, so I
could not even see what is on the discs.
Today after loading SP1 for XP and moving to WMP 9b, the Dell discs do read
but I don't know what to look for.
    >From the surfing I have done it seems to me that an operating system
specific device driver is required and that this should come from the device
vendor. In my case I have not flashed the drive nor do I want to.
I have paid the price for the DVD licensing in purchasing the system
    so....etc.

I also have an Iomega Predator ZipCD 650. Is there any hope that this device
    could read a DVD?
