Hi there - I wonder if anyone out there can help. I've just gotten hold of a SAMSUNG DVD ROM SD-616 that was previously in a black DELL tower. Now, I have downloaded the DELL firmware for this drive to make it region free but i'm wondering whether or not it makes a difference that the drive is no longer in a DELL system. Could someone clarify as I don't want to kill my drive!!

Hi Zax93,
I saw your post here. I have the same DVD-ROM model you have, but it is still on a Dell 8200 system (P4 1.8GHz, 512 MB PC800 memory, etc.), and I'm going to keep it there.
I would like to know what firmware version, and where did you get the firmware for the Dell Samsung sd-616 DVD-ROM drive.
I'm confused because there seems to be a lot of different original firmware versions for the SD-616 model. Mine is F000 as shown in Driveinfo v2.1.
Please, let me know. Best regards,
