What is the best DVD player for ATI, hi-res and analogue surround sound?

I have a third party ATI Radeon 9000 card, and am looking fo a DVD player for it that supports the full ATI DVD decoder hardware including the adaptive perpixel de-interlacing. Does anyone know which players support these andvanced features? I heard that the Cineplayer is the same as the ATI player in support for adaptive per-pixel de-interlacing, but I would like a cheaper alternative that has full analogue surround sound included. Is there any cheap alternatives?

My over problem is that I only presntly have a stereo DVD player software, and a nice 4.1 channel speaker system. Is there any lowcost or free analogue Dolby Digital/EX or DTS/ES sound decoders I can use with different DVD players or Windows Media Player?

I am also curiouse, is there any player software out there that can artifically produce hi-definition images above 720*576 on my monitor from a standard DVD, as Phillips Pixel Plus does on their Televisions.

I trying to set up a hgih quality system, it is ironic that this is going to cost me simular to what an actual DVD player would have cost me ( at least I'll get a good sound card

Well if anybody can help that would be great.

    Thanks

    Wayne.

You should try the DVD decoder on the ATI driver CD that came with your card.....

I hear that they are really good for the Radeon cards.

Thanks Betty. Sorry I'm late acknowledging your reply, but my computer web browser and email have been playing up recently (apart from other things .

Unfortunately I do not have an origional ATI card and so don't have the player with it. Everything is compromise and the Power DVD decoding quality I get is not as good as the cheaper Tongle DVD player down the shop ($185 for Gigabyte Radeon 9000, $127 for DVD drive versus $179 for Tongel DVD player, to beat Tongel DVD player $129 or Audigy $299 Audigy2 or better(to beat the $367 version of the tongle design) and Cineplayer $30-80+ (now learn this is the previouse decoder for the ATI). Bill=$415 to beat $179 doller DVD player, or $585 to beat better Toyoda design for $367.

When are we going to learn, ATI thanks for what. My nice box attestifies to the quality of DVD playbak but it seams that all that is available through PowerDVD that came with it is poorer than a cheaper $179 player, why bother.

For any body interested in the surround sound issue I raised, here is what I came up with:

      1. Spend heaps of money on the sound expansion pack for your Software player.
      2. Buy the latest Herculese Sound card with the surround sound DVD decoder, and give away the sound card (if you have a better one already). The sound quality you will get may even compare (on the more expensive Herculese card, but then again probably not) to the $179 Tongel player. But like the Tongel player I don't know where ever the Power DVD with the Herculeas cards includes Anlogue out decoding for DTS (though I imagine not).
      3. Go buy a decoder box (Less than $300). But buy a good one. I have looked at a reveiw for the the Minton and the Neocinema s-22 (in Chinese) and from what I can tell the single drops off at both at both ends of the spectrum (like many sub $300 sound cards, sub $150US), but you get DTS decoding, and the neocinema 68 and 88 get amazing 6.1 or 7.1 sound and other features.

      4. Go buy a $300 sound card with 5.1/7.1 surround sound support/DVD player. With the right one of these you should beat the $367 doller Toyoda DVD player. If nessacary buy the DTS expansion pack. Look at www.digit-life for some decent reveiws (note the unfavourable comparisions of teh Audigy series) and look at the www.via.com.tw website goto multimedia and keep following audio/sound links until you come to the Envy24HT sound chipset page and look on the right of the page for link to partners/manufacturers or products. Here you will find a list of sound card companies that sell (in most cases and products) cards that average score excellent on the digit-life reveiws, not very good like the Audigy (that is it's highest score, except for the Audigy2).

I am packing and leaving for a month so I probably wont be able to post again in that time.

      Thanks.

      Wayne.
