Doom9.org forums and guides contain dvd backup information. You will need to re-encode the movie to a lower bitrate if you are to fit it on 1 dvd.

I have that problem sometimes but I just exclude some of the titles. The movie itself usually fits but ive never tried Enemy @ the Gates.

A lower bitrate might cause a loss of quality.

I think scarficing the menu an extras is a better choice. or maybe just try lowering the bitrate of some of the smaller titles first.

Other than this one movie are you happy with DVD X Copy? I was just thinking about purchasing it

Is it an easy one stop shopping way to backup most movies?

I too, am thinking about getting/purchasing dvdxcopy program. I have had limited success, however, with 2 ripping programs. Once called CladDVD XP, and another called DVD Decrypter. I was able to rip a movie(s) to my hard drive. I can watch them fine on my computer using Power DVD ver 4.

I also have a trial of a pice of software called Neo DVD standard. I took the movie I was watching on HD (Bloodworks) and tried to put it onto DVD. I have a CenDyne (Pioneer 4X model DVR-105) burner and a Toshiba 16X DVD EIDE player. I also have Nero version 5.5.10. that has DVD capabilities.

New questions.. I'm NEW! .VOB extension files are the main movie files. Are they ALL needed? in otherwords, when I was copying the DVD movie from my HD to DVD 4.7GB I had too much movie, not enogh DVD. So I moved one of the last .VOB files to another directory. Burned fine. Plays fine, except not all chapters are now there. Is there a way to find out what the main movie .VOB files are and just strip down to the bare essentials, no - commentarys, trailers, different screens, etc etc.. so it can ALL fit onto 1 DVD 4.7 GB disk?

Is there sofware that I can use to adjust the size (bitrate) of some of the .vob files to shrink them a bit so that all the .vob files will fit?

.VOB stands for Vidio OBject file so what does the extension of .BUP stand for? and .IFO ?

In Nero, when you are compiling the DVD for burning, there it asks for all the files it needs, which are .vob, .ifo, .bup files. In the compilitation window on the left, there is "NEW" which you can rename "whatever" and then there are 2 folders below that like they must be there to work right. One is AUDIO_TS and the other is VIDEO_TS folders. I've never seen much of anything in audio files to put into the AUDIO_TS folder, so would asssume that all the .vob, .ifo, .bup files would go into the VIDEO_TS folder?

            Told you I'm new! LOL

To copy the dvds I have had the most success with:

Ripping using Smart Ripper, it will automatically select the main movie VOB files. Then if you hit the "files" button you can manaully select the ifo and bup files.

Select the ifo and bup with the same root name as the main vob files I.E. VTS_01_0.BUP and . IFO as well as the VIDEO_TS.BUP and .IFO

Rip the files to any folder you wish.

I then use IFOEDIT (awesome program)

First open the video_ts.ifo with ifoedit. Hit get vts sectors, followed by ok on any screens that pop up. It may tell you there are some errors, but they always still work for me. Then make sure to hit the save button, and save (overwrite) the VTS_0X_X.IFO and .BUP

Then for most movies you have to strip off the extra audio tracks like spanish or french, and 2channel english. But some smaller movies you are done at that point.

I won't go into detail on stripping the audio, but if you hit vob extras you can figure it out from there. Main thing is to remember to have make new IFO and BUP files checked in the options, then let ifoedit do the rest. Don't write over your original files though.

I use Nero to burn the movies, it is very simple. If Nero tells you you have an error, don't burn. Run the movie through the first step of Ifoedit where it gets new vts sectors then try burning it agian.

If the movie is still too big after stripping the audio, then you need to use REMPEG or similar program to reduce video bitrate, or you need to put it on two disks. Both of these proceedures I am still playing around with, but are fairly easy. Just check out the "articles" section in DVD Digest. Awesome stuff!

BTW I now have DVDXCOPY. I haven't gotten it to work yet, I got to the stage where it is supposed to burn a Nero image, and screwed it up somehow and haven't tried again yet.

Keep me posted if you come accross any tips msuc5vette@hotmail.com
