    Damsel in Distress

I have a Scan DVD player (stand alone / brown goods)

It had worked fine for over a year til now:

When I put a DVD in I get the starting whir, but then it kinda fizzles out rather than keeping the disc spinning.

Eventually I get a lovely error saying No Disc.
    But there is a disk!!
    It is driving me mad!

Also, this problem doesn't happen everytime.
If I persevere for 10 mins, I can eventually get it to go...

I have tried a proper DVD cleaner, but to no avail.

    Can anyone help me?
I wont be able to watch any of my Xmas pressies

The laser may be going slightly out of alignment.

By the way, are you having this problem with commercial DVDs as well as burned DVDs?

If only a problem with burned DVDs, try a different brand of burnable DVD...

      Cheers for the speedy reply

It's only commercial DVDs I've put in it.

If it is the laser alignment, can I have it re-aligned? (ooh, sounds like a painful psychological procedure!)
Or would the cost be a bit too ouch?

I hate to think I am gonna have to buy a new one, but I don't think I could be without it!

Unless you've got a really "high-end" player, you'll probably dicover that it's less expensive to purchase a new one...
