    playback problems with windvd 3.2

Every time i play a dvd using windvd 3.2, it crashes just as the film is about to start. Any suggestions?

    here are my specs:-

    16 x dvd drive

ati radeon 7500le 64mb graphic card

    512 mb ddr ram

    2.5 ghz pentium 4 processor

Any tips at all, no matter how trivial they may seem (i'm totally computer illiterate) will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it would be nice to know what type of movies (divx4,5, xvid etc..) but i first suggest that you uninstall your current version of windvd and get the newest one which is 4 if i'm not mistaken...

"Well, it would be nice to know what type of movies (divx4,5, xvid etc..)"

The poster has clearly stated, "Every time i play a dvd using windvd 3.2..."

"but i first suggest that you uninstall your current version of windvd and get the newest one"

There should be no need to do that in order to simply playback DVDs, or other file formats (WinDVD, starting with v.3.0, is fully capable of playing .AVIs [compressed or otherwise], as well as MPEGs of all types).

(Perhaps you're trying "too hard" to help...)

        1) Have you previously been successful at playing DVDs (or any other file format) using WinDVD v.3.2?

        2) Did you purchase the program, or is it possibly a "less-than-satisfactory" warez crack?

windvd 3.2 worked for a while, then for some unknown reason it just stopped. it's not a warez download, it came pre-installed when i bought this computer. i can play divx movies, j-peg but not ordinary dvd movies from disc. also my operating system is windows xp home, if that helps any.

You might first try using a DVD/CD cleaning disk on your drive. One by Maxell sells for approximately $10US.

Hopefully the system came with the software on CD. If so, I'd suggest that you uninstall and then reinstall WinDVD. Reboot (cold) before you try to use it again...

I notice that at first you thought it wasn't a smart idea, but based on the reason that the program stopped working, now it is. I agree with you on this point fully, however i suggested re-installing (either the same or a new version) a few posts back. Therefor, i dont see the point of you critisizing me for simply giving a suggestion, which can do no harm. I, for one, will read posts more clearly now, not to bring up any confusion.

(At the risk of this going much further astray from the original poster's desire to find a resolution to the problem)

You suggested that an upgrade might solve the problem - which implies that the VERSION the poster is presently using is universally flawed.

I proposed that he simply uninstall and then REINSTALL the present software - because files sometimes get corrupted or replaced, making some programs unstable - NOT because WinDVD v.3.2 contains an inherent universal flaw making that version unusable, witness the poster's own remark, "windvd 3.2 worked for a while, then for some unknown reason it just stopped."

There is not any version in the WinDVD v.3.xx series (or any earlier or later series) that simply doesn't work, thereby necessitating an upgrade to v.4.xx (The publisher would probably have been "run out of town on a rail" had that been the case).

                It's quite obvious that you are sincerely trying to help other posters rsolve their problems, but let me suggest to you that you not be overly sensitive to constructive criticism - especially when our mutual purpose is to provide meaningful and accurate information ;>}
