Can not get WinDVD or WinDVD Platinum to play back DVDs on Ricoh MP5120A I get a mess

When I try to play a DVD in Riicoh MP5120A I get a message that NO Disk or Drive is supported. Sometimes when I double click om D drive it will say what is in the drive, but won't play it & other times it says there is nothing in the the drive (even though a disk is definitely in it). I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling the windvd software off the disk that came with the Ricoh but it still does not recognize anything in the drive. I have also purchased WinDvd Platinum, but this has not helped. I have downloaded DVD Genie & the RPC remains blank after it has been clicked. I end up with the same message through Genie, Remote Selector & everything else I have tried. I currently run Windows XP.
I would really appreciate some help with this. Thanks heaps!

If the drive is still under warranty, I'd suggest you exchange it. If it doesn't recognize DVDs when using the software that came with it, it's probably a faulty drive...

I hope this isn't the case, as I bought it NEW at an ebay auction. It initially started to play up when I was attempting to get Region-free software. I have copied 2 Region 0 movies & after that it wouldn't work. So at first it worked pretty well, but would not play all regions after it locked in Region 1, so I tried to get around it by downloading software designed to overcome that problem. I also downloaded the Ricoh 1.74 patch but it did not make a lot of difference (neither did it help or make it not read the other software). In fact it was sometime after the patch that it started to play up.

I have downloaded the trial version of Power DVD & everything works fine on playback, but what about the next time I turn it on? Will it still play? Stay tuned!

Does this mean that I should contact the makers of Win DVD Platinum & see if I need to re install the Platinum edition?

Perhaps I'll just buy Power DVD if it still works tomorrow.
