Schneider DVD Player - SVCD's freezing

I have a major problem with my dvd player, most svcd's I play in it, whether encoded by myself or not will freeze and I'll hear the cd re-spinning. If I reload the disc and fast forward to around the same part of the movie it will playback without a problem most of the time.

I am in the UK so my DVD player is PAL, most of my movies are encoded NTSC. Could this be the problem?
