Standalone DVD player dominates TV via scart

    Hi!

I just bought a dvd player (Denver DVD 141) which I hooked up to my TV (Philips 27CE3591/133 from 1985) via a scart cable. This works fine but when the dvd is on, I can't switch to looking at normal TV channels, the TV sticks in the "E1-scart" mode. Even when I turn off the dvd with the remote, I can't switch. Only when I turn it off with the main switch on the actual dvd player.

How can I get around this? It's annoying if I for example want to listen to mp3s on my dvd while someone is watching TV.

Also, there's only one scart connection on my TV, should I get a 2-1 scart branching adaptor with a switch so I can watch my vcr without unplugging the dvd-player?

    Thanks!

    hope this works!

Ok, from my days as a satellite tv installer, we overcame this problem by cutting one of the wires. The problem was, power is supplied by the scart cable to or from the tv. This causes the problem you speak about. The wire I used to cut was pin 8, usually a brown wire, (if your scart lead is conforming to any kind of standard. There are a number of types of casing, the most common uses a plastic collar you unscrew, and then lever open the scart casing with a screw driver.
This web site has the scart pin connections, confirms pin 8 as the switch

    good luck!
