    :: DVD ROM won't play DVDs ::

    Hi all,

I have a problem with my DVD ROM. Until a few weeks ago it was playing DVDs (originals) fine, but now it won't play any at all, using DVD software or windows media player. I have been led to believe through my own research on the web that this is due to some problem with my video codecs. I have listed everything I think you'll want to know below:

    Specs:

    AMD Athlon 1700 processor
    256 RAM
    Windows XP Home

I have the following DVD software installed:

    Maximus DVD
    Interactual Player
    DivX 2.0 Alpha
Power DVD (not working due to XP probs - too long to mention)

List of video codecs in device manager:

    iccvid.dll
    indeovideo 5.10
    ir32_32.dll
    ir41_32.ax
    iyuv_32.dll
    Microsoft MPEG4 v1
    msh261
    msh263
    msrle32.dll
    msvidc32.dll
    msyuv.dll
    tsbyuv.dll

Factor which may have affected playback(?):

I have recently installed a TV card (which uses LifeView Suite software).

I recently installed free dvd codecs from Maximus DVD Player web site - and also ran this application several times as I was stupid!

Can anyone help me with this? If you need more info, or the above info is worthless please post here.

Thanks in advance for helping an idiotic 28yr old who should know better!

ps I search the forums for an answer already, but couln't find anything of use, also, found your site after trawling the web for two hours over this problem and once again realising MS Knowledge Base was of no use nor ornament!

I am using PowerDVD with my WindowsXP systems, and it works perfectly and sweetly. Perhaps you can elaborate further as to what version of PowerDVD you have and what graphic card (and the driver used) you are using?

      Cyberlink DVD Software

PowererDVD not working due to lost serial basically. In a nutshell, had to reinstall xp but lost serial.

Basically, DVD was working fine before installed tv card and Maximus free codec pack. What I really want to know is which of the above posted video codecs I can remove, then I can pop the correct ones in that won't clash. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to tell me, that's why I'm asking you guys.

Graphics card GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 with MD Driver v5.1.2002.0, but everything worked up until a few weeks ago as mentioned. Was all running fine and dandy for a whole year.

      Cheers.

Why not uninstall all codecs and codec packs that you have and then re-install only the few you need.
