PC playback

When playing a retail bought DVD on my PC which is displayed on the crt monitor, the image looks a little bit blurry. Not so much that anything is indistinguishable... the image just lacks the clarity that the DVD would have if played on my set top player through my TV. Any ideas what would cause this to happen?

some System Specs:
Win XP Pro
ATI all in wonder 8500DV video card
19" monitor set to 1280x1024 w/ 32 bit color
85hz refresh
2.0ghz celeron
512mg pc 2700 ram
Sony dru500ax drive
PowerDVD software player.

Make sure ALL VGA and Video Card drivers are up to date

I did the ATI card's drivers over the weekend. I'll try the monitor's drivers next and post the results. Thanks.

2nd what DVD software player are you using?

I'm currently using PowerDVD. Honestly, I'm not sure what the best player to use is yet.

I am not very familiar with PowerDVD but check and see if there are any sharpness settings or anything similar. Did you update the VGA drivers yet?

I haven't updated the monitor's driver's yet.. I'll do that tonight when I get home. I also picked up a few different software players, so I'll try those also to see if there's any difference in quality. I'll post w/ the results.

I tried using the ATI player which had the same problem, and WinDVD 4 which worked like a champ (nice, sharp image). Thanks.

For those interested: After installing Service Pack 1 for Win XP Pro, all my DVD players now appear sharp and crisp.
