Hard drive reads in the same time as the dvd drive

When I listen DVDs the hard drive starts reading syncronously with the dvd drive and it makes the movie stop as if the dvd was scratched but its not!

I'm using PowerDVD, WinDVD and I even tried playing it with Windows media player and it all does the same.

    This is my system:

    1.1ghz Celeron CPU
    256m ram
    GeForce4 Ti4200 128m
    Mobo: Asus CUV4X-C
    HD Maxtor 40g 7200rpm

I was playing DVDs before and everything was playing just fine, I tried either software decoding and hardware decoding, Ultra DMA is enabled wHaT Is ThE PrObLeM?!?

What, if any, hardware/software changes have you made to your system configuration?

Try turning off Norton Systemworks, and report the results.

It plays well but the HD keeps on reading when the movie starts, If I stop it, the HD stops reading, I don't know why it reads on the HD, its not supposed is it?

As I suggest in my previous post, did you turn off Norton System works and then play the dvd movie from your dvd-rom drive in your PC?

yes i did, and it does the same thing, I think maybe my dvd drive is overheating because after about 50 mins of playback it gets worse. the first 45-50mins plays ok though. But that does'nt clear the HD reading problem...
