XVid image freezes

I have 2 Xvid-Vite movies on my hard drive. Both movies play properly for a while, but then freeze always at the same point. For the first movie, it is 10 mins. into the movie. For the second movie, it is 15 minutes before the end of the movie. The audio progresses normally, but the image freezes. I can't jump past that point, or go backwards.

Does anyone know: 1) why this happens? 2) how to fix it?.
