Somebody help a confused newb?

Hi, I decided to try making my dvd rom region free, and my attempts to find out if it's even locked in the first place have led to some confusion. So I was wondering if someone could help clear things up a little?

Anyway, firstly, I tried Drive Ino 2.2, it being the smallest download. That just said that neither of the drives in the machien had no region protection. The same answer for my dvd and cd-rw drives led me to doubt it's validity.

So I tried cdvdinfo which refused to work properly, and was abandoned.

Taking one last go at it, I tried DVD Genie, which first said that the drive was protected, but then said it wasn't once I removed the Region 2 dvd from the drive.

All this has left me somewhat confused. Is the drive protected, or was DVD Genie just detecting the region encoding on the disc that was in when it was first run?

Any help would be appreciated.

Get DISCInfo from here:

Thanks, I gave that ago, and it said that the drive isn't locked.

However, just to complicate matters more, I tried CDVDInfo again, again, after installing the ASPI drivers, and that said it was locked.

Oh, the joys of OEM drives.
