    Windvd Platinum Playback Probs

I can't seem to get windvd platinum to work on my system, when I got into normal play mode all I get is a black screen no sound or video. Does anyone know if it is a driver or macrovision problem that I may be experiencing.
If I go into open file and chose one of the vob files on the dvd disk windvd reads it as an mpeg file.
I have tried everything I can possibly think of including a fresh installation of winxp pro without any luck.

    Can anyone help?.....

    1) "If I go into open file and chose one of the vob files on the dvd disk windvd reads it as an mpeg file."

This is perfectly normal (because WinDVD is only "seeing" the .VOB, which is a version of an MPEG2 file)

    2) "when I got into normal play mode all I get is a black screen no sound or video."

Would I be correct in speculating that you didn't purchase the software? (If so, this is probably the result of applying a "less-than-perfect" crack - and you should be posting your question at a very different type of forum)

      Windvd Platinum Playback Probs

I can assure you that I didn't crack this copy of windvd platinum I actually purchased this from intervideos website, ever since I installed it and registered the copy I have not been able to watch one single dvd film yet.
I don't know what could be causing this problem, I used to think it was the dvd rom drive but since windvd can read both mpeg files and vcds that I put into it that eliminates that theory.
Is there anything that I should or should not be doing in order to rectify this problem.
Anything you or anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried emailing your question/problem to the InterVideo homepage?

          Windvd Platinum Playback Probs

Hi All, I have now managed to get windvd platinum working on my system. I found a liitle program called DvdIdle which alows me to disable macrovision on my system so now I can play dvd's normally.
So all along it was the macrovision which I believe is built into my graphics driver or in windvd itself causing me all these headaches.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem without having to use third party software programs to disable macrovision?...

Macrovision should in no way interfere with playback from your DVD-ROM or DVD burner or hard drive under WinDVD.

            But as long as you've resolved your dilemma, congratulations ;>}

The reason you were having the problem in the first place, Scorpio, is because all nVIDIA driver versions above 41.09 are written in such a way that they do not conform to Macrovision's standards and prevent you from playing DVDs on your computer, with or without something connected to your TV-out port. This has been a known issue for about three months, and no one has bothered to come up with a resolution. I have a GeForce 4 Ti4200 that CAME with PowerDVD, but if I upgrade the drivers above 41.09 (which are crap, by the way...), I get a message saying that I cannot play a DVD as long as the TV-out is enabled, and this is with nothing even connected to it. The only solution without buying one of those shareware utilities is to downgrade the drivers, meaning you can never use more stable or more optimized drivers that might be introduced later without giving up DVD playback. Currently, I am using driver 30.82, the last WHQL-certified release I could find on the nVIDIA site. I recently sent an E-mail to someone at C|net about this to see if anyone will start an investigation as to why nVIDIA is coding drivers that are knowingly conflicting with the Macrovision protection they implemented. I've searched all over the Internet, and literally nobody has a solution for this other than one of the shareware utilities, and none of the computing sites I have visited have even discussed the issue. I would recommend that everyone start bombarding computing magazines and sites to investigate this and force nVIDIA to correct the problem. Anyway, those are my two cents, but this should also answer why you had this issue to begin with.
