    powerdvd 5 HDD playback

    Any ideas on why I get an error message "This disc is not formatted to play in this region" after I rip a region 1 DVD to disk using Smartripper 2.41 with the "Region Free" option enabled?

    If I play the actual DVD there are no problems...

    Also, if I change the region using dvdgenie it makes no difference.

    That DVD also had RCE protection (NOT to be confused with region protection.

    Use DVDDecrypter to remove the RCE protection as follows:

    1) In DVDDecrypter, from the "Tools" dropdown menu, select "IFO".

    2) (This step is only to prove that the ripped DVD initially contained RCE protection) Select "Region Information" - Select the Video_ts.ifo. Click on "OK". You will see that it does, at this point contain RCE protection

    3) Select "Region Patch"

    4) Select "Region Free" - Select the Video_ts.ifo. Click on "OK". You'll see a "successful patch" message.

    5) Select "Region Information" - Select the Video_ts.ifo. Click on "OK". You will see that it no longer contains RCE protection ;>}

      Does the trick

      Thanks for info.

      I have been using smartripper since a Lite-On DVD reader I had burnt itself out while using DVDDecrypter.

        " Thanks for info."

        My pleasure ;>}

        (I'm sure DVDDecrypter was not the cause of your DVD reader dying, any more than SmartRipper would have been)
