powed dvd video stretching? its terrible!

When divx movies were played in power dvd 4.0 and run fullscreen, the video was stretched so that it filled the screen. This of course was bad if you were watching the video on your monitor but if you were outputting the image to a widescreen tv the image could be stretched, mainting the correct aspect ratio and at the same time utilising the whole bandwidth of the video cable.

now it would appear that it does the same as wmp, where it maintains the aspect ratio. this is bad as your lose over a 1/3 of the bandwidth between the computer and tv! and it is very difficult to get the correct resolution!

when you play a dvd you have the option of stretching it, which works fine. you also have their new smart stretch which is terrible! it causes major tearing on my laptop....

And another thing. the slider bar at the bottom seems to completely not work in dvds!

not impressed with power dvd 5 so far......

anybody an comments?

I don't have a single problem with PowerDVD 5. Tried movies with 4:3 and Widescreen (16:9) aspect ratios, and both types displayed properly. The progress slider bar works alright as well.

Perhaps you should reinstall PowerDVD, or move to another player that may work for you.

Check the settings on PowerDVD as i have no problems with it either

I have met the same problem using powerdvd 4.0

what I found out after doing a little research was that
powerdvd was missing the black bars that are encoded within
a normal DVD video and/or the the display instructions
that are normally implemented in the *.ifo files.
(this is at least what I have learned from several pages that deal
with ifo editing.)

I switched to WINDVD back then but chances are that cyberlink has solved this problem.

Interesting you choose to have a go at me. Am i invading your territory. Where you trying to be the next great member or something and i am in your way.

Note: Enchanters reply stated that he/she did not have a problem so to try a re-install.

Note Also: My reply stated also that i did not have a problem. Try the settings.

Resourcefulness is something i do have. Jealousy and ignorance is something i have no time for.

what is getting on my nerve is that you reply to any thread

i think you will find i only reply to threads that i hae experience with. do you see me any of the DivX Xvid or VCD forums, NO. I do have a bit of knowledge in them, but ill stay out of there anyway. I may be new to this forum, but im certainly not new to forums. You are very sad to pick at these we problems you find anyway. Maybe you shuld get out more

I couldn't help but notice that you previously had problems with your then-new installation of PowerDVD v.4.0 and WinXP.

1) Did you ever resolve those problems?

2) Are you, by any chance, using "other-than-purchased" versions of the program? - If so, this could likely contribute to the unusual performance problem...

nope never sorted the problems, so i switched back to my (as you rightly pointed out) slightly more proper version 4 and media player classic (which as fantastic).

that'll learn me, i guess i must have a pre-release version....

actually, just read your post again (sorry, not paying attention) and realised its about version 4 that i posted ages ago. as for the old problems, it is a proper copy, and i never did really sort out the problems. however when it was time to do a fresh install of winxp it worked fine.... very strange
