    absolutely no audio

    hullo!
I am a totaly newbie. My new dvd deck (LG cd burner and dvd reader)with PowerDVD plays the video on my dvd but not the sound! The thing plays audio cds so i guess I didn't do anything wrong on the inside...
Help is greatly appreciated! I'll have to exchange the damn hardware if my machine is just screwy with dvds in general...

Try selecting a different audiostream under PowerDVD...

Try using WinDVD instead of PowerDVD.

(If yours is not a purchased or trial version of PowerDVD, this could be the cause of your problem...)

Is there are free version of WinDVD? The PowerDVD I have is purchased. I got some info from the PowerDVD people. I upgraded to Direct X 9 (I have a vague idea about what THIS software deos ) and now I'm getting sound but it's VERY low and burpy. THe video quality is (and has been) crappy too. I was told to upgrade my driver but my ECS motherboard site doesn't seem to have an upgrade for the VIA ac 97. So that's where I'm at right now!

"Is there are free version of WinDVD?"

I believe InterVideo provides a trial version that allows for 5 or 6 minutes of playback...
