Pioneer DVD-500M region problem

I've recently bought a Pioneer DVD-500M DVD-ROM drive. I need to play region 1 & region 2 disks as well. I've searched the web for a firmware patch to make the drive region-free but couldn't find a patch for this particular type. Does it exist at all? If yes, where can I find it? If no, what can I do? Please help a !
